Gravity Die Casting (GDC) is a widely used process for producing aluminum castings with controlled mold filling and solidification. To achieve consistent results, the casting machine must provide reliable mold movement, temperature control, and molten metal handling.

Tilting Gravity Casting Machine Cell

The Tilting Gravity Casting Machine Cell uses a hydraulic cylinder to control mold tilting.

The machine can start from a 0° vertical position and tilt backward up to 90°, with the mold able to stop at different positions during the process. It also provides upper and lower die heating and four standard mold cooling circuits.

Depending on the model, the effective die mounting dimensions range from 600 × 600 mm to 1,500 × 1,000 mm. The available configurations include THQZJ-1, THQZJ-02A, THQZJ-03A, and THZLJ-04.

Giant Rotary Servo Casting Machine Cell

For applications requiring servo-controlled mold movement, TiHo offers the Giant Rotary Servo Casting Machine Cell.

The THZLJ-C2400 configuration uses a servo motor and reducer to control mold tilting. The machine provides a tilting range from 20° forward to 110° backward.

The machine has an effective die mounting area of 1,200 × 1,000 mm, with a mold opening and closing distance of 500–1,000 mm. Upper and lower die heating are also provided, with 10 kW per circuit.

Pinion Servo Casting Machine Unit

The Pinion Servo Casting Machine Unit uses servo-controlled movement for the casting mechanism.

The THZLJ-C2400 configuration provides an effective die mounting dimension of 800 × 500 mm and supports a maximum die mounting weight of 1 ton. Its tilting range is 20° forward and 90° backward, with five programmable tilting sections and a tilting speed of 3–10°/s.

The machine provides separate cooling circuits for the upper and lower dies, together with temperature measurement and heating functions.

In automatic operation, the mechanisms can move independently or in coordinated motion. The system also includes melting-level protection and temperature-protection alarms.

For higher automation, the machine can integrate robots for pouring, casting extraction, and sand core placement.

Gravity Casting Machine with Dosing Furnace

For mass production, TiHo also provides an integrated Gravity Casting Machine + Dosing Furnace Production Line.

The system combines a holding or continuous melting furnace, degassing and refining chamber, blocking mechanism, pressurized dosing furnace, and flow slot.

The dosing system provides:

  • Holding furnace capacity: approximately 2,200 kg
  • Dosing furnace capacity: approximately 500 kg
  • Dosing weight: 25–100 kg per shot
  • Dosing accuracy: ±2%
  • Maximum bath temperature: 780°C
  • Pressurized air: 5 bar
  • Dosing cycle time: 12–15 seconds

The holding furnace uses an immersion heater to support lower energy consumption and stable molten aluminum temperature. The production line also integrates intelligent die cooling and casting information management for mass-production applications.

Mold Heating and Cooling

Temperature control is an important part of gravity casting.

TiHo provides different heating and cooling configurations depending on the machine type. The tilting gravity casting cell, for example, provides upper and lower die heating and four standard mold cooling circuits.

The Pinion Servo Casting Machine provides eight water-cooling loops for the upper die and eight for the lower die, together with temperature measurement and heating functions.

This allows the mold temperature control system to be configured according to the specific casting process.

Automation for Aluminum Gravity Casting

TiHo integrates automation into selected GDC machines and production cells.
